Local Advisor Gonzalo Luchinetti sipped some of his beer as he enjoyed the company of fellow Triptrotters at Sugar Bar, one of the best local hotspots in Buenos Aires known for attracting expats and travelers. A curious patron then walked up to him and asked, “What’s that nametag for? Can I have one?”
By the end of the night, over 40 people were wearing these simple nametags that had attracted surprising attention. These nametags were for the TRIPup, hosted by Triptrotting, a website that brings travelers and locals together.
“The nametags were just a small thing, but ended up being a great conversation starter,” Luchinetti said.
Attendees had drinks and laughed the night away as they met new people, locals and travelers alike. Travelers from all over the world, including Arizona, California, Austria, Germany, Venezuela, Columbia and Brazil showed up for the event.
Triptrotters socialized and made new friends at the relaxing atmosphere.
“I met a few girls from Brazil who were visiting Buenos Aires for a bit. One of them didn’t speak any English so I communicated with her in Portuñol, a combination of Portuguese and Spanish,” Luchinetti said.
Language was not a barrier as people joked around in the friendly atmosphere, making new friends and enjoying a not-so-typical Friday night.
